Your Consultant

Choosing your consultant/advisor

When choosing your immigration consultant, here are some tips on what to look for:

1. Am I protected?

1.    Is the company providing me with a written service agreement?

2.    Am I covered by a written Code of Ethics?

3.    Are the directors full members of the only professional body of immigration advisers- the New Zealand Association for Migration and Investment (NZAMI)?

4.    Will my application be lodged by a licensed Immigration Advisor?

5.    Are they readily available to me when I need them?

2. Will they understand the special circumstances of my situation?

1.    Does the company have people who have been migrants and have first-hand experience of the difficulties of moving from one country and culture to another within their team?

2.    Has the company been providing a full range of immigration services for some time?

3.    Are they small enough to care about ME?

3. Is the company competent and respected?

1.    How much experience do they have - how long have they been in business?

2.    Do they get all the latest and relevant information from INZ?

3.    Do they have a positive relationship with Immigration New Zealand?

4.    Can they provide testimonials from other successful applicants?

4. Can they provide the post-migration services I will need?

1.    Do they have the strong local knowledge and people available to help with my resettlement when I arrive in New Zealand?

2.    Do they appear to care?

3.    Am I comfortable in their company?

4.    Can they help me with advice and connections for accommodation?

5.    Can they enroll my children in school?

6.    Can they refer me to professional services?

7.    Can they introduce me to reputable professional advisors?

8.    What, if any resettlement advice and services are provided at no additional charge?
