The goal with this program is to provide the opportunity to learn about New Zealand, expand their knowledge with our culture, learn some English - but most of all have fun with the activities planned!

  • With the school programme, we aim to incorporate activities in the classroom that teach and broaden understanding of our system of study.
  • Capture the student’s interest of coming to Aotearoa to study, work or tour again.
  • We believe that the experience of sharing with various cultures provides a creative, challenging and appropriate learning environment for all students.

***NB:  DJ Decebel & KTT Events are a local act, renowned in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty for their high standard of music and event organising and best of all – music by teens, for teens – zero alcohol/drugs events.

Holiday Programme January/February 2011

Mount Maunganui, – Bay of Plenty

Activities may be changed to different days depending on weather conditions.

Thursday 27th January 2011 - Students leave from airport. Aotearoa Abroad International Program Coordinators will be meeting students at airport and assisting students through the travel process.

Saturday 29th – Students arrive in Auckland NZ. Students will be picked up in 2x12 Seater Minibuses (Each Minibus with a luggage trailer for student’s baggage.)

Drivers: Stephen Seymour and Nathan Seymour – Stephen Holds current Clean Bus licence.  Nathan Holds current clean FULL NZ drivers Licence.

3 Hour from Auckland to Mount Maunganui.

9:00am - Arrive at Pacific Coast Lodge Mt Maunganui – Breakfast is served. http://www.pacificcoastlodge.co.nz/

10:00am – Students briefed on what will be happening for the rest of the day,

12:30pm – Lunch is served

3:00pm – Leave to Main Beach Mt Maunganui in Minibuses for activity.

Activity:  Walk around the Mount Maunganui, approximately 1hour walk. After walk students will be provided with classic NZ lunch ‘Fish n Chips.’ Students are free to explore the Mount Maunganui Town centre or beaches.

6:00pm – Meet back at minibuses and taken back to the Lodge for rest of the night.

6:30pm - Dinner

Sunday 30th – 7:00am – Breakfast

7:30am - Travel to Rotorua City which is 45mins drive from Mt Maunganui.  There we will be going on the Luge which is one of the main attractions of Rotorua. Each student will get 5 rides. More info at: http://www.skylineskyrides.co.nz/rotorua/ssr_luge/

12:00pm – Gather at Luge cafĂ© for lunch

12:30pm – Finish off luge riding

2:00pm –  Go to Rainbow springs next to The luge. More info: http://www.rainbowsprings.co.nz/page/5-Home

5:00pm – Students gather at buses, then guided to area for Dinner.

6:00pm – Buses travel to ‘Hot and cold’ thermal pools (Waiotapu Thermal Park) which is about 20mins drive out of Rotorua. This is where we will have a swim and relax in the ‘Hot and Cold ‘natural pools.

8:00pm – Buses will travel back to the Lodge in Mount Maunganui.

8:30pm - Supper

Monday 31st – 7:00am – Breakfast

7:30am - Travel in buses to Papamoa Hills approximately 10mins drive south of Mount Maunganui.  There we will be hiking up the Hill, learning about the native bush and scenery on the way up.

11:00am – Buses travel to Maketu (approximately 15mins south of Papamoa). There we will be digging for Pipi’s (seafood) in the estuary. Students will have a short lesson on NZ seafood and estuaries.

12:30am – Lunch at Maketu Park

1:00pm – Drive back to Mount Maunganui, go to the main beach. Have the afternoon for free time to sunbathe or explore around Mt Maunganui.

4:30pm – Meet at the buses to walk the Leisure Island and take Photos.

5:30pm – Eat dinner on the beach (provided by us)

6:00pm – Fishing at the Pilot Bay Wharf (5mins walk from Main beach)

8:30pm – Students will be taken to the Mount Maunganui Hot Pools which is at the Base of Mount Maunganui itself.

10:00pm – Travel back to Lodge.

Tuesday 1st – 7:00am - Breakfast

7:30am – Buses travel to Karangahake Gorge (approximately 1hour from Mt Maunganui). Students will hike the 2hour walk guided by Stephen Seymour.  More info: http://www.karangahakegorge.co.nz/mainpage.html

1:00pm – Gather for lunch at the Main area.

2:30pm – Travel to Waihi Beach (approximately 15mins from Karangahake).  Free time to sightsee, relax at the beach, or explore the town centre.

5:00pm – Travel back to Mount Maunganui.  Relax at lodge.

6:00pm – Dinner.

8:00pm – Night walk up the Mount

10:00pm – Back to the lodge

Wednesday 2nd – 7:00am – Breakfast

7:30am – Travel to Matamata (approximately 1hour from Mount Maunganui).

9:00am – Arrive in Matamata and take the Hobbition Tour. More info: http://www.hobbitontours.com/

12:30pm – Lunch

1:00pm – Drive back towards Mt Maunganui to Mclearen Falls (approximately 30mins drive).

2:00pm – Swim at Mclearen Falls.

4:00pm – Travel to Marshalls Animal Park (approximately 10mins drive towards Tauranga.) More info: http://www.marshallsanimalpark.co.nz/

5:30pm – Travel back to lodge

6:00pm – Dinner

6:30pm – Free time, split into groups and walk around the Mount.

10:00pm – Supper and back to lodge.

Thursday 3rd – 7:00am – Breakfast

8:00am – Leave to Bay of Plenty Polytechnic (University). Spend a whole school day on a tour around the University. More info at: http://www.boppoly.ac.nz/.

3:00pm – Travel to Puripuri Waterhole in the Kaimias, Swim, take pictures etc.

5:00pm – Travel back to the Lodge for dinner.

6:00pm – Dinner.

6:30pm – Free time for rest of the night.

Friday 4th – 6:00am – Pack-up ALL gear

6:30am – Breakfast

7:00am – Travel to Hamilton (approximately 1.5hours Drive west). There we will stop to have morning tea and a look at the Hamilton Gardens. More info: http://www.hamiltongardens.co.nz/.

11:00am – Leave to Raglan (approximately 45mins drive to the west coast).

12:00pm – Arrive at Kairioi Lodge in Whale bay raglan. Un- pack gear and get settled in. http://www.karioilodge.co.nz

12:30pm – Lunch

1:00pm – Walk to Whale bay up to Indicators. Then bush walk through the loop track (approximately 1hour walk).

4:00pm – Ropes and Flying fox course – This is where we will be ab-sailing and Swinging through caves, where glow worms will be sighted.

7:00pm – Dinner

7:30pm – Raglan Harbour Cruise.

9:00pm – Camp Fire and toasted marsh mellows.

11:00pm - Back to Lodge.

Saturday 5th – 7:00am – breakfast

8:00am – Raglan surf school Pick up and travel to Wainui Beach for 3hr surf lesson.

12:00pm – Return to lodge for lunch

1:30pm – Buses travel to Bridal Viel Falls (approximately 10mins from raglan)

1:45pm – Swim and walk through the reserve

4:00pm – Buses travel back to Raglan for ice creams at the fishing wharf.

5:00pm – Travel back to the lodge.

5:30pm – Dinner

6:00pm – Buses travel to Waingaro Hot Springs (approximately 30mins drive from Raglan). More info: http://www.waingarohotsprings.co.nz/

6:30pm – Swim and slide at Waingaro.

9:00pm – Travel back to lodge

9:30pm – Night walk through the Bush track (approximately 45min walk)

10:30pm – Marsh mellows around campfire

11:00pm – Bed.

Sunday 6th – 7:00am – Pack up gear

7:30am – Breakfast

8:00am – Travel to Hamilton

10:00am – Morning tea and Shopping and the BASE shopping centre.

12:30pm – Movies at Westfield Shopping centre.

3:30pm – Afternoon tea and travel back to Mount Maunganui

5:30pm – Dinner at lodge.

6:00pm – Free time

8:00pm – Optional Hot pools or night walk around the Mountain.

10:00pm – Back to lodge.

Monday 7th – 7:00am – Breakfast

8:00am – Travel to Te puke High School for first day.

8:30am – Formal welcome to the students – this will consist of a Powhiri and Haka

9:00am – Each Student will be paired up with a student from the school and taken to class for the rest of the day.

3:10pm – Buses pick up students and travel back to lodge.

4:00pm – Beach for swim or sunbathe.

6:00pm – Back to lodge for dinner

Tuesday 8th – 7:00am – Breakfast

8:00am – Travel to Tepuke high school

9:00am – Meet buddy and school

3:30pm – Buses pick up students, travel to Kiwi360 (approximately 10mins from Tepuke)

4:00pm – Take the Kiwifruit Tour and Maze. More info at: http://www.kiwi360.com/

6:00pm – Travel back to Mount Maunganui Lodge

6:30pm – Dinner

Wednesday 9th – 7:00am – Breakfast

8:00am – Travel to Tepuke high school

9:00am – Meet buddy and school

3:30pm – Buses pick up students

4:00pm – Back to lodge for afternoon tea

5:00pm – Fishing at Mount Maunganui Wharf

7:00pm – Dinner at lodge

8:00pm – Swim at the beach

9:00pm – Free time

10:00pm – Back to the lodge.

Thursday 8th - 7:00am – Breakfast

8:00am – Travel to Tepuke high school

9:00am – Meet buddy and school

3:30pm – Buses pick up students

4:00pm – Back to lodge for afternoon tea

5:00pm – Games on the beach, Rugby, soccer etc.

7:00pm – Dinner at the lodge.

7:30pm – Travel to Bayfair shopping centre for late night shopping

9:00pm – Ice creams at Copenhagen Cones Mount Maunganui

10:00pm – Back to the Lodge.

Friday 9th – 7:00am – Breakfast

8:00am – Travel to Tepuke high school

9:00am – Meet buddy and school

3:30pm – Buses pick up students

4:00pm – Back to lodge for afternoon tea and relax

5:00pm - Free time

6:00pm – Dinner

7:00pm – Get ready for dance

8:00pm – Buses travel to Tepuke High school for school dance/social.

12:00am – Back to Lodge.

Saturday 10th – 6:30am – Breakfast

7:00am – NZ Tour bus pick up, travel to Rotorua

8:00am – Visit Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve, more info: http://www.whakarewarewa.com/

Students will take this tour all day. This tour is full of Maori culture.

5:00pm – Students return to Mount Maunganui.

5:30pm – Dinner

7:00pm – Mount Maunganui Hot pools, walk around mountain.

10:00pm – Late night dessert.

11:00pm – Back to Lodge for last night.

Sunday 11th – 7:00am - Breakfast.

8:00am – Bus travel to Auckland

11:00am – Stop at Pokeno, for Ice cream.

11:30am - Arrive Auckland City, Walk around the city, visit shopping malls etc.

1:30pm – Lunch at Mission Bay Auckland.

2:30pm – Leave to Auckland airport.

6:00pm – Students fly back to their country.
